Appointment of Gregg Goldman as Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Gregg Goldman as Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer, effective October 22, 2018.

Mr. Goldman currently serves as senior vice president for business affairs and CFO at the University of Arizona. As the campus’ senior business and financial officer, he has responsibility for a variety of operating units and functions, including financial services, university budget and planning, capital design and construction, real estate, internal audit, human resources, institutional equity, risk management, public media, facilities, parking and transportation, sustainability and university police.

Prior to joining the University of Arizona in January 2015, Mr. Goldman was senior associate dean and CFO for the USC Marshall School of Business (2003–14); senior assistant dean for the UC Irvine Graduate School of Management (1996–2003); director of financial services for the UCLA Library system (1991–96); and chief financial and operations officer at private companies in the Los Angeles area (1984–91).

Mr. Goldman is past president of the Board of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO) and past chair for the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the preeminent professional associations for higher education business and finance professionals representing 2,100 U.S. colleges and universities. He received his B.S. in business administration from Thomas Edison State College and M.B.A. from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

I want to thank the search/advisory committee members for assembling an outstanding pool of candidates and for their role in recruiting Gregg. The committee was chaired by Judith L. Smith, founding dean of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Other members were: Reem Hanna-Harwell – assistant dean, Division of Humanities; Kathleen M. McGarry – professor and vice chair, Department of Economics and member, Council on Planning and Budget; Jens Palsberg – professor of computer science and member, Council on Planning and Budget; Gary M. Segura – dean, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs; Victoria L. Sork – dean, Division of Life Sciences; Paul A. Staton – senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer, UCLA Health; and Peter J. Taylor ’80 – president, ECMC Foundation.

With Gregg’s more than 25 years of experience in major public and private academic organizations and his proven track record in financial and operational leadership, strategic program development and administration, Chancellor Block and I are confident that he will be an extraordinary addition to our campus leadership team. We look forward to working with him and with each of you to advance our shared goals for UCLA.
