Project Facilitator: Lubbe Levin
Project Description: This project looks at consolidating departmental business functions into multiple, regional service centers potentially including transactions in purchasing, human resources, general accounting, payroll processing, travel and entertainment reimbursement, and contract and grant administration functions. Over 400 campus departments perform these services in a decentralized context. The current structure may result in duplicate efforts and inefficiencies, insufficient training, unclear accountability, and, in some cases, re-work due to lack of knowledge or experience. An initial pilot program was developed for contract and grant administration and is being implemented during calendar year 2012 by the International Institute as a pilot program across five of UCLA’s professional schools (Anderson School of Management; Law School; School of the Arts & Architecture; School of Theater, Film, and Television; and the Luskin School of Public Affairs). Additionally, as part of the UCPath initiative, options for streamlining workflow and/or providing shared services are being explored in connection with personnel transactions and benefit service delivery.
